The rise of Tweakments

Thanks to social media and the rise of “tweakments” and “zoom boom”-cosmetic procedures that require little to no downtime the tides are turning when it comes to plastic surgery. While many still prefer not to disclose the work they’ve had done, more women are opening up about the changes they’re making to their appearance.

For years even a whisper of plastic surgery or Botox was considered taboo, but it was especially so in Hollywood, where an incredibly singular form of “natural” beauty has long been the ideal. But like the influencers on our feeds, celebrities, too, have gotten more candid about their decisions and are reclaiming the conversation. Scroll on to see some celebs who have had work done.

Chrissy Teigen

Teigen has never been shy about letting us in on her glam routine—even the parts that aren’t so glamorous, like rashes and altitude sickness. In 2019 she posted about getting Botox in her armpits, which can help stop excessive sweating. “TRULY BEST MOVE I HAVE EVER MADE. I can wear silk again without soaking woohoo!” she wrote. She's also revealed she had another treatment done to her pits: liposuction. “It added two inches of length to my arms. [That fat] is coming back though, so I might need to go in and pay for it again.”

Now, in 2020, Teigen has been documenting the process of getting her breast implants removed. “They’ve been great to me for many years but I’m just over it," she shared back in May. "I’d like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort! No biggie! So don’t worry about me! All good. I’ll still have boobs, they’ll just be pure fat. Which is all a tit is in the first place. A dumb, miraculous bag of fat.” Most recently she shared a topless photo postsurgery on August 9.

Tyra Banks

In 2018, Banks opened up about getting a nose job earlier in her career. “I had bones in my nose that were growing and itching,” the model told People. “I could breathe fine, but I added cosmetic surgery. I admit it! Fake hair, and I did my nose. I feel I have a responsibility to tell the truth.”

Courteney Cox

Although most of the celebrities on this list have embraced plastic surgery, it's equally important to hear about the journeys that didn't work out. In 2017, Friends star Courteney Cox revealed she had dissolved all her fillers. "I’m as natural as I can be. I feel better because I look like myself," Cox told New Beauty. "I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do. Things are going to change. Everything’s going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake. You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles—they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend."

Kylie Jenner

In perhaps one of the biggest culture-shifting discussions on injectables, in 2016, Jenner revealed on her app that she had gotten lip injections. “As of now, I only have lip fillers...But I’m also someone who says ‘never say never.’ If, down the line, I get to a point where I’m really uncomfortable with something on my body, I’m not against changing it,” she wrote. We all know more then “lip filler” has been done to this beauty. Your whole foundation does not change. Get it girl!

Cardi B

Cardi is willing to talk about anything, so it’s not surprising that she’s been pretty open about the work she’s had done. In a video interview in 2017, she talked about her breast augmentation and illegal butt injections (something, it should go without saying, you should never do; complications from illegal and so-called back-alley procedures can be catastrophic—even deadly). In 2019 she was vocal about getting liposuction and going right back to performing (something that’s not advised), which led to her needing to cancel shows due to complications.

Maybe more people especially woman would speak up about their insecurities or be open if celebs or people or status would not hide having plasticor cosmetic surgery.

That’s why Social Cosmetics is changing the beauty world for the good. No more hiding, aesthetics not being taboo, and you can reach your full potential.
